A downloadable mod

This is a text hack for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door that serves as a sub-mod for Griscuit's TTYD+ and N-Reun's Paper Daisy HD mods to make them work together. Essentially, it carries over most of TTYD+'s dialogue changes onto Paper Daisy's own changes, and makes various tweaks of my own to further embellish how the many characters react to Daisy being the protagonist of the game instead of Mario.

For example, Daisy being in Luigi's house is shown as Peach having invited Daisy for a friendly meeting/reunion, only for Daisy to arrive and find out Peach was nowhere to be found; with Luigi lonely from Mario going off in another adventure elsewhere, he invited Daisy to stay with him until receiving news from her, and indeed it was because Peach at the last moment received an important letter about the Magical Map in Rogueport, and later sends Daisy a letter telling her about it and "inviting" her to come there to help her hunt for its treasure.

Likewise, Bowser's hostility toward Daisy is moreso portrayed as him holding a severe grudge over that time Daisy slapped him into oblivion in Mario Party 3; initially, he wants nothing to do with her, but over time grows angrier and angrier at her being a nuisance to his plans and wishes to get revenge against the "fake princess". Additionally, more characters will react to Daisy being a princess in general.

I initially made this mod for personal use, but as I commented about it and shared some of my changes to some friends, they loved it and increasingly wanted to play with it themselves, so I decided to share it here, with permission from both Griscuit and N-Reun. This mod only features my text changes, so you still need to install both their mods first.

Important Note:

I consider this mod to still be untested/in early-access. I initially ran into crashes after first finishing the mod, which some friends helped me figure out that the text editor I used accidentally removed some null bytes. I reviewed everything and restored every null byte that had been deleted (as well as other pronouns I overlooked), but it's possible that I may still have overlooked something.

What I'm saying is, this mod might make your game crash, so please save often. And if you do run into a crash, then please let me know where it crashed so I may fix it! I don't have the time to manually check every part of the game myself, so all I can report is that the game makes it to at least Petalburg without issues.

This also goes for if I accidentally overlooked or messed up some pronouns and stuff like that!

Install instructions

The provided Readme.txt has more detailed installation instructions, as it is an involved process and too long to fit here.

Remember, this mod is an ADDITION to the TTYD+ 5.0 (Modern version) and Paper Daisy HD mods, and will NOT work without them! Download them here:

- TTYD+ v5.0 Modern: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3092/

- Paper Daisy HD: https://gamebanana.com/mods/480137

You will also need the GameCube Rebuilder tool for installing this mod, and optionally the HD texture pack if you wish to use the Daisy mod's HD textures. You can download each of them here:

- GCRebuilder: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/619/

- HD Textures: https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-paper-mario-ttyd-hd-texture-pack-v2-5-may-...

Although the Daisy mod's HD textures are only available as .PNG files, they also work alongside the .DDS version of the texture pack. Despite what the Daisy mod's installation instructions say, you do NOT need to replace textures because the mod uses different addresses to load them, and as such the Mario textures will largely go unused.

GCRebuilder is only available on Windows, but if you're using Linux or the Steam Deck, you can run it through Wine or a front-end such as Bottles or Lutris with minimal setup.

This mod uses the NTSC-U, 1.35 GB version of The Thousand-Year Door's ISO. You will have to find or dump one yourself, sorry.
